Herod Elementary
Market: K-12
Project Type: New Construction
A new school was built on the site of the original building with the intention of protecting the environment by pursuing LEED certification. Sustainable project highlights include: Elevated daylight with 90% of occupied spaces, including all classrooms, having windows for outdoor views and natural daylight; Community learning spaces and connection to the outdoors allowing students to experience each LEED category and learn about a Green School; Clerestory windows bring light to central spaces creating vertical light wells with high-efficiency lighting and a water-cooled chiller decreasing the building’s energy demand. Strategically placed wall graphics and millwork reinforce the heroic themes honoring the school’s namesake Texas Air National Guard Gary L. Herod.
